The Defence Ministry made clear that Khabarovsk is not just any sub. Designed by Rubin, the famous Central Design Bureau of Marine Engineering, the submarine’s real punch is the Poseidon drone it will carry. The Poseidon is no ordinary weapon. Business daily Kommersant highlighted its amazing abilities — this underwater drone can travel faster than most submarines and modern torpedoes. It dives deep, zooms across intercontinental distances, and is powered by a tiny nuclear reactor that is much smaller than typical submarine reactors. This technology-packed drone was successfully tested last week and is set to become the main weapon carried by Khabarovsk-class submarines. Russian President Vladimir Putin himself announced the successful Poseidon test, praising its nuclear-powered propulsion. Adding to the drama, Dmitry Medvedev, Russia's Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, called the Poseidon the "Doomsday missile." In a strong statement, Andrei Kartapolov, Chair of Duma Defence Committee, said it was "capable of wiping out whole coastal nations."
