Shock in Bihar Elections! EC Transfers Patna Police After Politician Dularchand Yadav Killed in Campaign Violence

November 3, 2025

Big drama in Bihar’s election heat! On Saturday, the Election Commission (EC) took swift action after violent scenes rocked the Mokama assembly area. The gangster-turned-politician Dularchand Yadav was killed during campaigning on Thursday, sending shockwaves through the state. The EC fired a strong salvo by ordering the transfer of Patna district’s superintendent of police (rural), Vikram Sihag. But that’s not all! They also instantly replaced three key officials in the Barh sub-division to clean up the scene. “A panel of officers for posting a substitute in Sihag’s place may be sent urgently,” declared the EC to Bihar’s chief electoral officer. The three officials replaced immediately are: Chandan Kumar, the sub-divisional officer (SDO) Barh and returning officer for Mokama; Rakesh Kumar, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Barh-1; and Abhishek Singh, SDPO Barh-2. Into their shoes step fresh faces with hefty responsibilities. Ashish Kumar, a 2022-batch IAS officer working as additional municipal commissioner at Patna Municipal Corporation, takes charge as SDO Barh and Mokama’s returning officer. Then we have Anand Kumar Singh, deputy superintendent of police (CID), as the new SDPO Barh-1, and Ayush Shrivastava from the Anti-Terrorist Squad in Patna as SDPO Barh-2. What about the bad boy Abhishek Singh? The EC wasted no time and ordered his immediate suspension. Adding to the tension, on Friday, supporters of Dularchand Yadav reportedly hurled stones at the vehicle of RJD’s candidate from Mokama, Veena Devi. A twist in the crime — the post-mortem report revealed that even though Yadav was shot near his ankle, the bullet wound wasn’t the cause of death. Instead, it was cardiorespiratory failure caused by shock from injuries to his heart and lungs that took him down. The Election Commission wants answers fast and has asked the state’s director general of police for a full, detailed report to understand the tragic chain of events in Mokama. This incident underlines how rough and tumble Bihar elections can be, and how the authorities are working hard to keep things under control.
