Bengaluru's MEI Layout and nearby Bagalgunte area witnessed a blast of fun and games on Sunday morning. The first Happy Streets event on Hesaraghatta Road turned a simple 60-foot stretch into a buzzing hub from 6.30am to 9.30am. Residents woke up early to enjoy the morning filled with activities that brought the whole community together. The day kicked off with an energetic yoga session guided by Shree Yoga Vijnana Kendra, calming minds and stretching bodies. Soon after, the crowd grooved to the tunes of Swingers Dance Inc, with DJ Youngskull dropping catchy beats that made even the shy step onto the dance floor. Smiles and clicks were everywhere as visitors posed at the creative Bhima photo booth. Nearby, talented artists drew funny and quirky caricatures, making people wait patiently for their turn. Children had a playground of choices with classic games like carrom, darts, snakes and ladders, and exciting tug-of-war matches that got everyone cheering. Art lovers flocked to the Sabrang Art Studio stall, where sketches bloomed with bright colors thanks to eager hands. The musical vibes continued with Sunil Koshy’s ‘From Mug to Mic’ encouraging untrained singers to take a brave leap and sing. The event specially featured Kannada hits from Puneeth Rajkumar’s movies, adding plenty of local magic during Rajyotsava month. An amusing highlight was the Bhima Mannequin Challenge, where two teams dressed mannequins in the most creative ways, followed by dazzling dance steps from students of Kalagrantha – The Art Hub. Health wasn’t left behind - the Rotaract Club of Dhanvantari offered free basic medical tests, while fitness enthusiasts showed off their strength in plank and push-up challenges. To add a brain-tickling twist, Funcovered challenged everyone with more than a dozen Kannada riddles, which the crowd solved eagerly. The spirit of unity and joy was truly alive on this Happy Streets morning. Presented by Bhima Jewellers, this event brought laughter and togetherness, with residents sharing their excitement. Vilas RM & Vinutha VM from Bagalgunte said, “Happy Streets provides us with a different experience and much-needed physical activity. We enjoyed the games that we used to play during our childhood. The dance was a stress buster and helped many grown-ups come out with their hidden talents.” Neighbours from MEI Layout agreed too. Sonia Singh, Saket Kashyap, Gayathri Singh, and Mohan Singh noted, “Happy Streets provides free space for kids to enjoy these well-chosen activities. Games like tug-of-war brought together neighbours, who otherwise don't interact a lot. We have 15 kids who are here to enjoy together. The overall vibe is amazing.” Durga Prasad Guntu felt nostalgic, saying, “Games like snakes and ladders, and the spinning top took us back to our childhood. The old games brought back many memories. It was nostalgic for '90s kids like us. We played carrom, clicked pictures at the photo booth and had a lot of fun.” Others like Nagaraj M and Disha N from Defence Colony wished for more such events, noting, “The activities look very exciting. Some are educational and others are good exercise. Many more people need to know about Happy Streets. It should also be held more frequently with local stalls and indigenous products.” Vasanthi Rajasekharan from Chikkabanavara praised the event but added a hope for the future: “It is a great initiative with activities like dance, yoga, and games for children. I hope there will be more events for adults as well. We also need to ensure that the street is clean before and after the events.” Happy Streets has set a bright example of community fun and active living, promising many more joyful mornings ahead in Bengaluru neighborhoods!
