Two recent graduates, Imon Phukan and Sharol Ahluwalia, from London's Royal College of Art (RCA) showcased their creativity to great acclaim at India Art Fair 2025. Imon Phukan, a Sculpture MA graduate, was the artist in residence, exhibiting a new installation made specifically for the fair. On the other hand, Ceramics & Glass MA graduate Sharol Ahluwalia showcased her graduate work in an exhibit highlighting contemporary interpretations of India’s craft traditions. The RCA has a rich history of Indian artists and designers who have excelled in various fields of art and design. From renowned artist Sunil Gupta to industry leaders like Pratap Bose and Anab Jain, RCA alumni have made significant contributions to the art and design world. The university, ranked number one internationally for Art & Design, attracts students from around the globe, including India, to study a wide range of disciplines. Imon's participation in the India Art Fair's 'Artists in Residence' program, supported by the RCA, showcased her large paintings and textile installations, reflecting themes of migration, belonging, and identity. The works blend materials and techniques from India and the UK, showcasing her unique perspective. Sharol's work, exhibited in 'Shifting Horizons', stood out for its innovative approach to blending craftsmanship with contemporary design principles. Her pieces, inspired by Kundalini philosophy, symbolize a bridge between tradition and modernity, reflecting the exhibit's theme of evolving design. Imon and Sharol's experiences at the RCA have been transformative, providing them with opportunities for material exploration, conceptual depth, and cultural exchange.
