Bengaluru’s Bold Move: Earn Rs 250 by Catching Litterbugs on Camera!

BENGALURU is taking a new, spicy step to fight the bad habit of throwing trash in public! After the popular 'Kasa Suriyuva Habba' campaign that shamed litterbugs by dumping garbage at their doorsteps, Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd (BSWML) has cooked up a fresh, exciting plan. Now, citizens can earn Rs 250 by catching people red-handed while dumping waste in public places, and sending video proof to the authorities. Here’s how the game works! Very soon, BSWML will launch a mobile app designed especially for citizens to report litterbugs. But if you don’t want to wait, you can also send your videos via WhatsApp at 9448197197. Simply record clear videos showing the face of the offender and the exact location, and if the violator is fined by officials, you pocket Rs 250. How easy is that? What about the offenders? Brace yourselves! The litterbugs will face a fine ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000, depending on how much and what type of garbage is dumped. A senior official from BSWML explained, "Once people send the images and videos, the junior health inspector and marshals will visit the place and identify if it is true and then use police department services to identify the person and penalise them. The first penalty will amount to Rs 1,000, and then repeated offences will be Rs 2,000." The official added a pinch of reality, "People are still too lazy to hand over waste to auto tippers that come to their doorstep and prefer throwing it at empty sites, which has become a challenge. We are able to dump garbage in front of some homes, while many are still violating it." On the tech side, a senior official from the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (GBA) revealed exciting news: The civic body is working on a secure payment plan to transfer the Rs 250 reward directly to people’s UPI accounts. And yes, your identity will stay secret! So, no worries about being exposed while fighting dirt. Now, you might ask if this cash reward will cost extra money. Officials quickly clarified, "The reward amount will be paid from penalties collected from violators. Paying Rs 250 as a reward is a small but effective step to promote civic participation." So, it’s a win-win! Cleaner streets, empowered citizens, and a cleaner conscience. So, Bengaluru, ready your phones and eyes! Catch those sneaky litterbugs and help make your city shine. Who knew fighting dirt could earn you some quick cash?
