Imagine spending a staggering $1 trillion to build giant AI computer centers! That's exactly what OpenAI, the mastermind behind ChatGPT, is planning. But to raise such a massive pile of money, OpenAI has a bold idea: asking the U.S. government to back their loans. At a Wall Street Journal business conference, OpenAI's CFO Sarah Friar explained why. She said government guarantees would "really drop the cost of the financing," making it cheaper and easier for OpenAI to borrow the huge funds needed. "This is where we're looking for an ecosystem of banks, private equity, maybe even governmental," Friar said. This move is unusual for Silicon Valley tech giants because government loan guarantees mean the government would cover losses if OpenAI couldn't pay back. OpenAI is already on an unbelievable spending spree with plans like a $300 billion deal with Oracle and a $500 billion Stargate project with Oracle and SoftBank. When asked about going public soon, Friar shut down rumors fast: "IPO is not on the cards right now." She stressed that growing fast is OpenAI’s top target right now, not selling shares to the public. So, the AI giant is charging ahead with a trillion-dollar plan, backed by hopes of government help, without rushing to hit the stock market.
