Agoda has revealed exciting insights in its new AI Developer Report, showing that AI use is booming among software developers in Southeast Asia and India. A whopping 95% of developers use AI every week, and more than half keep an AI assistant open all the time while working! But wait, AI isn't just magic — it's a smart helper speeding up their work without lowering quality. The study, done between August and September 2025, surveyed over 600 developers from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, and India. These developers come from various industries and company sizes, giving a full picture of how AI fits into their daily coding lives. Here’s the spicy scoop: AI is everywhere but still growing up. While 95% use AI, only 22% trust it to solve new, tricky problems. Most use it to save time — about 37% say AI saves them four to six hours a week! But when it comes to tasks like documentation or testing, AI use drops. This tells us AI is still more of a tool than a partner. Quality checks are king in AI use. Nearly 80% of developers say AI can be unreliable sometimes. So, 67% check every line AI writes before using it, and 70% revise AI's work to make it perfect. Official AI policies are rare—only 25% of teams have rules—but teamwork reviewing AI outputs keeps the code sharp and speedy. AI education isn't equal across the board. Most developers learn AI on their own via tutorials and side projects. A small 28% get formal training from their employers. Singapore has more official training chances than places like Vietnam, showing some spots shine brighter in AI education. Despite challenges, optimism is high! 87% say they are learning new AI skills, and 62% believe AI opens more career doors. This shows developers want to grow with AI, even if companies are catching up slowly. Idan Zalzberg, Agoda's Chief Technology Officer, summed it up best: "Artificial intelligence is reshaping how developers across Southeast Asia and India build, learn, and collaborate. What began as a way to speed up tasks like writing, testing, or debugging code has grown into a broader shift. Today, AI helps teams move faster, learn continuously, and solve problems in new ways." He added, "Developers are approaching AI with pragmatism – accelerating work, maintaining quality, and experimenting thoughtfully rather than replacing skill or judgment. The real opportunity lies in supporting this ground-up maturity with structured practices and responsible experimentation." Agoda’s report was made with Macramé Consulting’s help and aims to boost the tech talent in the region. Agoda wants Southeast Asia and India to become Asia’s Silicon Valley—a place with super technology and solid teamwork.
