Assam CM Sarma Shrugs Off Congress-Led Alliance, Predicts BJP’s Stunning Win
November 16, 2025
Guwahati: Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has thrown cold water on the new alliance formed by Congress and seven other parties in the run-up to the assembly elections. Fresh from the success of the NDA in Bihar, Sarma said the opposition coalition in Assam is not scary at all.
“The coalition formed in Assam recently has not been formed for the elections. It has been formed with another purpose. We are not worried at all about the opposition coalition formed here,” Sarma said confidently. He went on to predict a sparkling result for the BJP, saying, “every single member of every single household will vote for BJP.” Sarma was bold, declaring, “The results in Assam will be beyond expectation.”
He also mocked the opposition, saying they spend their time holding meetings in fancy hotels instead of hitting the streets. “It is the NDA leaders and workers who are relentlessly working on the ground across the state,” he added. Sarma delivered a zinger by saying that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is actually “the brand ambassador for BJP” because “the saffron party wins the seat wherever he goes to campaign.”
Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia was equally upbeat. He said the victorious Bihar polls will fuel BJP’s spirit in Assam. Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, Saikia spoke of the BJP-led government’s work since 2014 to build a developed and inclusive India.
He gave credit to the BJP-JDU government in Bihar for achieving “all-round progress” and said, “the people of Bihar have broken all barriers and blessed the BJP–JDU alliance through the EVMs in this election.” Saikia added that the landslide win with Nitish Kumar showed the strength of nationalism in Bihar.
Not everyone is so sure though. Congress Assam state president Gaurav Gogoi fired back, saying, “In Assam, people belonging to different tribes are ready to bid adieu to the dictatorship of the CM Himanta Biswa Sarma-led govt. They are certain to bring a govt in the state under the leadership of Congress.”
In a quirky twist, Assam Pradesh BJP posted a brief apology on X (formerly Twitter) saying, “We sincerely apologize for upsetting the 'national child' on Children’s Day. Truly unfortunate.” This left many wondering who got offended!
All eyes are now on Assam to see if the saffron surge that swept Bihar will repeat its magic in the northeast. Will BJP’s prediction come true, or will the opposition surprise everyone? Stay tuned as the election battle heats up!
