Big news from the Election Commission of India (ECI)! They are using smart AI software to catch duplicate voters in 12 states, including West Bengal, where the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is happening. West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Manoj Agarwal spilled the beans, saying, “The AI-based software, through the face recognition feature, will identify the voters which are duplicate.” So, no more double trouble with voter photos! Mr. Agarwal is hopeful the entire SIR process in Bengal - from handing out forms, collecting them, to digitising data - will wrap up by November 25-26. That means a speedy cleanup of the voter list before the draft roll is published. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar is watching closely. In a video call with all 12 CEOs, including Agarwal, he stressed, “The CEC has given clear instruction that in case of dead, shifted or duplicate voters, the responsibility completely lies on the person who signs the form.” This means signatories must be honest and accurate! The CEO’s office added, “Correct information in regard to dead voter, permanently shifted voter, or voter whose name is entered elsewhere in addition to the present part, that is duplicate voter, is to be given to the BLOs by the applicant or the signatories who are signing on behalf of the applicant.” That’s a strong message: no cheating allowed! Digging into numbers, over 7.63 crore (99.56%) Enumeration Forms (EFs) were distributed till Monday afternoon. Digitisation of these forms is at 9.55%, with around 73.19 lakh EFs digitised so far. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will also click new photos during house visits to fix any scanning issues using the BLO app. Important alert! The ECI and West Bengal CEO’s Office warned that they “do not ever ask for any OTP on any mobile number” related to SIR or electoral revisions. Stay safe and don’t share OTPs with anyone! A special Election Commission team led by DEC Gyanesh Bharti will start monitoring the SIR work closely from Tuesday. They’ll meet district officers and supervisors in key districts like Kolkata North and South, Nadia, Murshidabad, and Malda between November 18-20. After these field visits, the team will join the workshop on FLC (EVM) on November 21 to keep things smooth and transparent. With AI technology, honest rules, and sharp monitoring, the ECI is all set to shine a bright light on West Bengal’s voter list. No more duplicates, no confusion - just clean rolls! Get ready, voters – your list is about to get a serious makeover!
