A thrilling bust at the border! Vishat Kumar, 22, wanted in India for murder, tried to sneak into Canada using a fake name and false birth date. But guess what? U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents caught him red-handed at the Peace Bridge from Buffalo, New York, to Ontario. The CBP officers revealed Kumar was hiding behind a fake identity. Thanks to smart biometrics tech — which checks fingerprints, face shapes, and even iris scans — they quickly saw through his disguise during a secondary inspection. Kumar is not a stranger to trouble. He had illegally entered the U.S. last year but skipped his asylum interview. When Canada denied him entry this time, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement took him into custody. Now, he’s locked up in a federal facility in Batavia, New York, waiting for removal proceedings back to India. India had issued an Interpol red notice for Kumar, a global alert for serious criminals like murderers. Remember, an Interpol red notice is not a direct warrant but a call to police worldwide to catch someone. It’s up to each country’s police to enforce it under their laws. The U.S. and India have an extradition treaty, meaning if India formally asks, Kumar can be sent back for trial. But deporting someone illegally in the U.S. does not need extradition court proceedings. The CBP statement did not mention if Kumar has a lawyer yet. No details about the murder case against Kumar have been shared. Acting Area Port Director Sharon Swiatek praised her team’s sharp work. She said, “The apprehension of this individual demonstrates the critical role our officers play in safeguarding our nation and working collaboratively with international partners to uphold justice.” She added, “This arrest highlights our commitment to ensuring that those who attempt to evade accountability for serious crimes are identified and brought to justice. I commend our officers for their vigilance and dedication to the mission.” So, this daring escape attempt didn’t fly! Thanks to smart checks and dedicated officers, justice might just catch up with Vishat Kumar soon. Stay tuned!
