Bengaluru: A 28-year-old software engineer with a private firm in Indiranagar lodged a complaint against sub-inspector Uttam Singh, accusing him of assaulting and insulting her when they were in Paonta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, recently for a trip.Singh works in the wireless wing of police in Kalaburagi city. He became friends with the woman during swimming training in Kalaburagi a few years ago. He recently invited her to join him for a trip to Kumbh Mela and Ayodhya in his new SUV. He booked a flight ticket for her from Bengaluru to Hyderabad as he planned to go to Prayagraj from there.A wireless police inspector and three other staffers were also part of the trip. After visiting Prayagraj and a few other places, including Shimla, they were supposed to return to Bengaluru on Feb 24. However, Singh informed the woman that they were going to Manali. When she refused to join him, the two got into an argument, and Singh allegedly assaulted her.The matter came to the notice of Himachal police. They suggested the woman lodge a complaint in Bengaluru, and helped her return to the city by booking a flight through Singh.After she returned, she went to Jayanagar General Hospital to get treatment and then lodged a complaint with Madiwala police. A case has been registered under BNS Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult modesty of a woman).
