COP30 Day 10: Fire, Food Systems Push, Fossil Fuel Fight and India’s Bold Climate Finance Stand
November 21, 2025
The clock keeps ticking at COP30, and Day 10 was packed with drama and big announcements. First, a sudden fire at the Blue Zone caused sirens to wail and forced a quick evacuation. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but negotiations paused, adding pressure to already tense talks. Earlier, UN Climate Change chief Simon Stiell had warned about security problems at the venue, like unlocked doors and water leaks, making the fire even more worrying.
Despite the scare, the summit pushed hard on a key theme: transforming food systems. The COP30 presidency launched the exciting RAIZ Accelerator, a joint public-private project aiming to heal damaged farmlands and help farmers fight climate change. At the same time, the Alliance of Champions for Food Systems Transformation welcomed new members, showing a growing global team ready to act. The presidency said the goal is to "translate ambition into practical action," making food systems a main part of climate solutions.
Simon Stiell highlighted that these real actions will also create stronger economies, more jobs, and better lives for millions.
On another hot issue, over 80 countries demanded a clear roadmap to phase out fossil fuels. From Africa to Europe, Latin America, and Asia, there is a united push for strong promises. This wave of voices is likely to shape the important "Belm package," the final political deal negotiators want by the summit’s end.
India kept its assertive tone too. Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and negotiator Suman Chandra made it clear: without reliable, fair climate finance, developing nations cannot fight or adapt to climate change properly. India reminded developed countries about their legal duties under Article 9.1 of the Paris Agreement, pushing hard for actual funds, not just words. As Yadav said, COP30 must be the time to "move from goal-setting to implementation."
As Day 10 wrapped up, negotiators dove into intense shuttle diplomacy, tackling food systems, money, fossil fuels, and adaptation. With just days left before COP30 wraps, the big question is: will promises turn into powerful actions, or will delay steal the show? One thing is clear—the world is watching and waiting.
