November 23, 2025
What was meant to be a festive evening in Concord quicky turned scary on November 21. At the city's annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, a sudden shooting left the crowd shaken and four people injured! The incident happened just before 7:30 pm near Union Street S and Corban Avenue, right where the holiday event was buzzing.
Concord Police sprang into action along with firefighters and Cabarrus County EMS, all already present at the event. They rushed to help the victims, getting them to a local hospital fast. Out of the four injured, three are in critical condition and one is stable, making the situation very tense.
City officials shared in a statement, "Three people were reported in critical condition and one in stable condition following the shooting in Concord, a city located approximately 19 miles (30 kilometers) northeast of Charlotte."
As the city tries to piece together what happened, the police are digging deep into video footage and talking to witnesses. They're also asking anyone who snapped photos or videos during the chaos to step forward and help with the investigation.
US Representative Mark Harris of North Carolina expressed his concern and support, saying on social media platform X, "We are praying for the safety of our brave law enforcement officers, first responders, and everyone on the scene."
The shocking violence forced the event organizers to cancel the rest of the celebration immediately. Authorities urged everyone nearby to safely leave the area and used words of caution for drivers to find other routes.
Concord Police confirmed that the case is still hot under investigation but gave no new details on suspects or reasons behind the shooting. The community remains on edge as they await answers and hope for healing.
