A fiery scene erupted in Shorapur this Wednesday when 10 people stopped a government officer from doing his official duty. The trouble began during the Constitution Day ceremony near Ambedkar Circle, as the Tahsildar, H.A. Sarkawas, was set to garland the statue of the great leader B.R. Ambedkar. Sub-Inspector Police Krishna Subedar, who was on duty with his team, reported that this group blocked the Tahsildar’s path. The Tahsildar was accompanied by MLA Raja Venugopal Naik, adding weight to the event. “I and other staff tried to foil the attempt by the group to make way for the Tahsildar and I suffered an injury to my arm when one among them twisted it. Later, I took treatment at a government hospital for the injury,” said Sub-Inspector Subedar in his complaint. The police did not take this lightly. They have registered a case against the 10 people involved under Sections 189(2), 121(1), and 132 read with 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita 2023. This law deals with stopping a government servant from performing their duty and related offences. The tension during what should have been a peaceful event raises many questions. Why did this group block the tribute to Dr. Ambedkar? The inquiry is still underway, and more details will surface soon. For now, the police are focused on completing their investigation and maintaining order in Shorapur. Constitution Day celebrated with respect to Ambedkar’s legacy should not end in chaos. Stay tuned as this drama unfolds!
