A blackout was reported in several districts of Punjab, including Amritsar and Jalandhar, as well as in Chandigarh on the night of May 8, 2025. This blackout coincided with increasing tensions between India and Pakistan. In Jalandhar, security forces neutralised drones that were spotted around 11:20 p.m. In Pathankot, locals reported hearing explosion-like sounds, although there was no official confirmation. Air raid sirens were sounded, and residents were instructed to keep their lights off and stay indoors. The blackout was implemented as a precautionary measure to ensure citizen safety. In Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, a 'No Flying Zone' was declared for drones and UAVs. Schools in border districts were closed, and police personnel leaves were canceled. The blackout was part of the safety measures following India's strike on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir. The authorities emphasized that there was no need to panic and urged citizens to cooperate with the safety protocols.
