The political scene in Kerala just got more dramatic! Late Friday, Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil rushed to the District Sessions Court in Thiruvananthapuram asking for anticipatory bail. Why? The State police have slapped him with serious charges including rape and forcing a woman to terminate her pregnancy. These shocking allegations came from a woman known to him. But wait, there's more sizzling details! The case also includes accusations like criminal intimidation, cheating, and secretly recording private moments to blackmail the woman. Rahul Mamkootathil is not taking these charges lightly. He cries foul, calling the complaint "false and politically motivated." He even pointed fingers at a alleged plot between CPI(M) and BJP to defame him. The MLA says the woman recorded their private talks on purpose to damage his reputation. Interestingly, Mamkootathil claims the woman went to the media first by leaking voice clips and chat messages instead of filing a police report. The court is expected to consider his bail plea on Monday. On the investigation side, the state police formed a new team led by City Police Commissioner Thomson Jose. They have also asked the Bureau of Immigration to issue a lookout notice—meaning if the MLA tries to leave the country, he could be stopped. This case exploded in August after voice clips and texts went viral, stirring a huge public outcry. Following this, Mamkootathil was suspended by the Congress party and went into political exile. The probe had stalled when no official complaint was made. But things took a sharp turn last Thursday when the woman directly met Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and filed a formal complaint. Nemom police then registered a case against Mamkootathil covering many serious crimes like rape by a person in authority, repeated sexual assault, causing miscarriage without consent, and criminal intimidation among others. Police are also looking into claims that Mamkootathil got medicines to cause miscarriage without prescription. He is said to have used an acquaintance, Joby Joseph, to deliver the pills to the woman and even watched via video call to make sure she took them. Joby Joseph is now named the second accused. To crack the case wide open, police plan to get forensic help to check if the viral audio clips are real or doctored. A Section 65B certificate will be obtained to use mobile phones as solid evidence in court. Cyber experts will examine timestamps, metadata, and digital traces to spot any tricks. Meanwhile, Rahul Mamkootathil’s location remains a mystery. He had recently been active in his area, quietly campaigning for UDF candidates in the upcoming local polls. Now, all eyes are on the court and investigators to see what happens next in this political thriller!
