Two Journalists Beaten While Exposing RTO Corruption in Indore; Seven Booked
November 28, 2025
In a shocking and violent episode in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, two fearless journalists were beaten up on November 28, 2025, while investigating corruption at the RTO office. Hemant Sharma, a reporter, and Raja Khan, his cameraman, faced the fury of a group of men right inside the RTO premises at Nayta Mundla.
The crime happened around 11:30 a.m., according to the police. Indore Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Dandotiya revealed to The Hindu that the police have already filed an FIR against seven locals named Narendra Chouhan, Ankit Chintaman, Vinod, Gajendra, Shankar Prajapati, Nitin, and Pawan. These charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita include sections 296(B), 115(2), 351(3), 324(4), 309(6), and 3(5).
Mr. Dandotiya said that the team first heard about the incident from a private hospital where Hemant Sharma and Raja Khan were rushed for treatment. “A police team went to the hospital to record their statements,” he said, noting that an investigation is underway and officers are working hard to catch the attackers.
The journalists claim they were filming the alleged scam involving trials for driving licenses and the role of middlemen at the RTO office. As soon as they began recording, three men – Ankit Chintaman, Vinod, and home guard Narendra Chouhan – reportedly objected, started abusing them, and called more people.
"They began beating us and pushed us to the floor. They also snatched and broke our camera and threatened to kill us if we returned there," Hemant Sharma alleged in the FIR.
A viral video on social media shows attackers dragging and thrashing the duo, sparking outrage across the region. Both journalists bear injuries on their head, arms, and neck but remain resolute in exposing the truth.
This brazen assault raises serious concerns about press safety and the challenge journalists face in exposing corruption. The police promise swift justice and urge anyone with information to come forward.
