The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by PM Narendra Modi approved two multi-tracking railway projects to ensure faster transportation of both passengers and goods. These projects aim to improve connectivity between Ratlam-Nagda and Wardha-Balharshah, covering four districts across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The total estimated cost of ₹3,399 crore will be completed by 2029-30. These projects are a part of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity, providing seamless movement of people, goods, and services. It will increase the existing railway network by 176 km, connecting approximately 784 villages and benefiting around 19.74 lakh people. These projects are essential for transporting commodities like coal, cement, clinker, and petroleum products. The capacity augmentation will result in an additional freight traffic of 18.40 million tonnes per annum. The railway is an environment-friendly and energy-efficient mode of transportation, contributing to achieving climate goals and reducing logistics costs. The projects will generate around 74 lakh human-days of direct employment during construction and improve travel convenience, decrease oil imports, and lower CO2 emissions. They will also enhance logistical efficiency, streamline operations, and alleviate congestion on critical transportation routes. These improvements are expected to optimize supply chains and facilitate accelerated economic growth.
