MANGALURU/BENGALURU: Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district is on edge after the murder of Koltmajalu Juma Masjid secretary Abdul Rahiman. The state CM Siddaramaiah has ordered a crackdown on the violence and a thorough investigation into the motive behind the recent killings. Rahiman (32) was killed while unloading sand outside a customer's house in Kuriyala village. The police suspect communal or personal reasons behind the attack. Rahiman's co-worker, Kalandar Shafi (29), was also injured in the attack and is currently in ICU. The FIR has named 15 people, with two identified as Deepak and Sumith. Mohammad Nisar, a fellow driver who filed the police complaint, stated that the attackers were known to him and Rahiman. The victim was laid to rest amid tight security, with his funeral drawing a massive crowd and causing traffic disruptions. Stone-pelting incidents were reported in Surathkal, with two buses damaged. Mohammad Azmal, a relative of Rahiman, believes the killings are politically motivated and has urged the government to take action against the perpetrators. This incident comes on the heels of the murder of Hindutva activist Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru on May 1, with one of the accused, Naushad, being attacked in prison earlier this month. The situation remains tense in the region with prohibitory orders and additional police deployment.
