Six Ex-YSR Congress MLCs Push Chairman to Accept Pending Resignations
December 1, 2025
Six MLCs—Jayamangala Venkataramana, Karri Padmasri, Balli Kalyan Chakravarthi, Zakia Khanam, Pothula Sunitha, and Marri Rajasekhar—who quit YSR Congress and resigned from the Legislative Council after their party’s electoral loss last year met Council Chairman K. Moshenu Raju on Monday. They urged him to quickly accept their resignations, which are still pending.
After the meeting, Ms. Zakia Khanam reportedly withdrew her resignation. The Chairman had told her that only six months remained in her term and pressing for acceptance now had little point. She then submitted a letter withdrawing her resignation.
The leaders said some had joined other parties and stressed their resignations were voluntary. They reminded the Chairman that rules require him to act on their resignations without unnecessary delay.
Mr. Venkataramana said he went to the High Court over this delay. The court called the inaction illegal, arbitrary, and against Article 14 of the Constitution. It ordered the Chairman to finish the inquiry and decide within two weeks or at most one month, citing the Thirty-third Constitutional Amendment.
Speaking to the media, the former YSR Congress leaders said they did not understand the Chairman’s reluctance. They hope he will now follow the court’s order. They warned that continued delay amounts to an abuse of process.
