Teen Accidentally Shoots Herself with Friend's Gun in Maharashtra

June 1, 2025

A tragic incident unfolded in Palghar, Maharashtra, as a 17-year-old girl accidentally shot herself with her 18-year-old male friend's illegal country-made gun at a homestay in Kelwa. The girl is battling for her life in the ICU at a hospital in Boisar. The police have detained the boy and charged him with kidnapping and attempt to murder under the BNS and the Arms Act. Authorities are investigating if the homestay, Raut Residency, had followed check-in formalities, considering the girl's minor status. Palghar's superintendent of police, Yatish Deshmukh, revealed that the girl accessed the firearm while the boy was in another room, leading to the tragic accident. Upon receiving the alert, the police swiftly responded, transferring the girl to a nearby hospital and later to Boisar for further treatment. The illegal firearm was confiscated, and the boy taken into custody for interrogation before being formally arrested. The police plan to present him in court on Saturday to request his custody. Deshmukh confirmed that the firearm was submitted for forensic analysis, with results pending.
