Thirumullaivoyal: Struggling with Infrastructure and Lake Conservation

July 1, 2025

Sandwiched between Avadi and Ambattur, Thirumullaivoyal is grappling with deep-rooted civic challenges amid its real estate development. The area, lacking comprehensive underground drainage and water supply systems, struggles with the sorry state of its waterbodies. Arafath Eri, a key waterbody, has shrunk due to urbanization and encroachments, with concerns about sewage disposal and water hyacinth cover. Efforts by officials and citizen groups aim to revive the lake for groundwater recharge and recreational use. Residents highlight the need to clear encroachments, rejuvenate the lake, and improve water and sewage infrastructure. Poor road conditions further compound the issues faced by the area, with calls for repairs and blacktopping. Plans are underway to develop Arafath lake into an eco-park with amenities like pavements, play areas, and boat rides. Measures to address sewage pollution and expand water supply lines are in progress, along with road restoration projects. Thirumullaivoyal's development initiatives aim to address its infrastructure and environmental challenges for the benefit of its residents.
