US President Donald Trump announced on Friday that Pakistan representatives are set to visit the US for discussions on trade and tariffs. Trump also revealed that the US is close to finalizing a deal with India. He emphasized the importance of averting conflict through trade, stating that using trade as a negotiation tactic helped prevent a potential nuclear war between India and Pakistan. Trump has been credited with brokering the cessation of hostilities between the two countries. However, India maintains that the understanding reached on May 10 was a result of direct talks, with no third-party involvement. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar reiterated in a recent interview that the cessation of firing and military actions was negotiated directly between India and Pakistan. The cross-firing between the two nations escalated after India's Operation Sindoor in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
