Spanish authorities reported that Andrii Portnov, a former adviser to Ukrainian ex-President Viktor Yanukovych, was fatally shot outside a school in Madrid. Portnov, 52, was gunned down by multiple assailants while entering a vehicle, according to witnesses. He was known for his pro-Russia stance during Yanukovych's presidency and was linked to legislation targeting activists of the 2014 Ukrainian revolution. Portnov had faced accusations of state treason in relation to Russia's annexation of Crimea and was sanctioned by the United States in 2021 for alleged corruption. The investigation against him for state treason was closed in 2019. Portnov had lived in Russia and Austria before his move to Spain, where he met his unfortunate demise.
