The campaign for the local body polls in Ernakulam district ended on Sunday, December 7, 2025. Voting is set for Tuesday, December 9. The CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) exchanged strong claims on development and welfare work. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, during his campaign speech, highlighted the achievements of his government and Kochi Corporation. The Congress dismissed these claims as "far from reality." District Congress Committee president Mohammed Shiyas said, "Even the Chief Minister did not have anything to say in Kochi other than making tall claims about projects they did not implement. His desperation to take credit for projects implemented during the UDF rule was evident." CPI(M) district secretary S. Sathish responded, "The Congress reaction shows they know the ground reality is in favour of the Left front. We presented our development and welfare achievements of the past nine years. There is strong support for the LDF to continue in power." Both fronts are optimistic about increasing their seats. Congress leaders said their organization worked hard, adding thousands of new voters despite rebel threats in a few wards. The LDF emphasized comparing development in areas they govern to those run by the UDF. The UDF highlighted allegations against the LDF government, including the Sabarimala gold theft case, while saying sexual misconduct charges against expelled Congress MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil will not affect polls. Though the UDF aims to retain Ernakulam district panchayat, it remains unsettled after a nomination issue in Kadamakudy division. Congress plans to advise voters against voting there, as the 'NOTA' option is unavailable. The BJP campaigned on Narendra Modi-led Central government schemes. BJP district president K.S. Shyju said, "People want Central government schemes at the grassroots. In Kochi Corporation, NDA will either form the ruling front or force LDF and UDF to form a tie-up, winning a decisive number."
