Supreme Court Rejects Urgent Hearing on IndiGo Flight Cancellations Despite Massive Passenger Stranding
December 8, 2025
The Supreme Court on Monday, December 8, 2025, refused to urgently hear a plea for judicial help in the cancellation of hundreds of IndiGo flights. The court said the Centre is aware and has taken steps to fix the problem.
Chief Justice Surya Kant, leading the bench with Justice Joymalya Bagchi, noted, "It is a serious matter. Lakhs of people are stranded at the airports. We know that the government of India has taken timely action and cognizance of the issue. We know people may have health issues and other important issues etc."
A lawyer told the court that many IndiGo flights were canceled recently and passengers are suffering. "The cancellations are not informed to the flyers," he said. Around 2,500 flights were delayed across 95 airports in India.
On Monday alone, IndiGo canceled over 250 flights from Delhi and Bengaluru airports as the airline's operation disruption entered its seventh day. Delhi airport saw 134 cancellations (75 departures and 59 arrivals), while Bengaluru airport had 117 cancellations (65 arrivals and 62 departures).
IndiGo has faced pressure from the government and passengers since December 2, after hundreds of flight cancellations due to new rules on pilot duty and flight regulations. These issues have left lakhs of travelers stuck at airports across the country.
