BIAL Delays New Overstay Charges at Kempegowda Airport Amid Flight Disruptions
December 8, 2025
Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has delayed the launch of a new lane segregation and overstay charge system at the arrival zones of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Terminals 1 and 2. The new rules were to start on Monday but will come into effect a few days later. A BIAL spokesperson said, “In consultation with relevant authorities, KIA will now implement overstay charges at the arrival kerbsides of Terminal 1 and 2, a couple of days later than planned.” The delay is to allow for flight operation disruptions across India to settle, expected within a day or two. The spokesperson added that the revised date for implementation will be announced soon.
Under the new system, vehicles can use the pick-up zones free for eight minutes. After that, charges apply: ₹150 for 8-13 minutes, ₹300 for 13-18 minutes, and any vehicle staying beyond 18 minutes will be towed to the nearest police station with fines and towing fees.
BIAL said the changes aim to reduce congestion, improve passenger flow, safety, and discipline at the airport arrival zones.
Meanwhile, flight delays and cancellations continue to hit the airport. IndiGo canceled 127 flights on Monday, split between 65 arrivals and 62 departures. Earlier, on December 7, IndiGo canceled a total of 151 flights.
These disruptions have caused delays in airport plans as authorities await smoother operations before enforcing new traffic rules.
