The mood was grim at Goa Medical College's victim assistance wing on Monday, December 8, 2025. Families arrived to collect bodies of 25 people killed in the December 6 fire at Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub. Police, doctors, and officials were busy helping. Vasant Dhabolkar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, booked flights for families to take home their loved ones. Twenty victims were nightclub staff. Jitendra Singh, an assistant cook from Uttarakhand, was among them. His brother-in-law, Dhan Singh, said, "He liked the atmosphere in Goa." Another victim, Satish Singh, also from Uttarakhand, was to be taken home by his brother Ramesh Singh. Five tourists died, including 25-year-old Ishaq Hussein Khaku of Bengaluru. His father collected his body Monday. Three members of a Delhi family also died, identified by survivor Bhavana Joshi. Officials contacted families of 19 victims so far. Each deceased's family will receive ₹7 lakh, including ₹5 lakh from the Centre and ₹2 lakh from Goa. Injured get ₹50,000 and free hospital treatment.
