The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has received IndiGo's reply to a show-cause notice over its mass flight cancellations. The airline is "profusely apologetic" and regrets the trouble caused to passengers, the DGCA said on Monday, December 8, 2025. The DGCA issued the notice to IndiGo's CEO Pieter Elbers and Accountable Manager Isidro Porqueras on December 6, demanding explanations within 24 hours. After IndiGo requested more time, the deadline was extended to December 8, 6 p.m. IndiGo submitted its response at 6:01 p.m. on Monday, signed by both top executives. IndiGo explained that the disruptions were due to multiple factors: minor technical glitches, schedule changes for the winter season, bad weather, increased air traffic congestion, and the new crew rostering rules called Flight Duty Time Limitation Phase II. The airline said it is "realistically not possible to pinpoint the exact cause(s) at this time due to the complexity and vast scale of operations." IndiGo also noted that the DGCA manual allows 15 days for show-cause responses, implying more time is needed for a full root cause analysis. The DGCA said it is now reviewing the airline’s reply and will take enforcement action as needed in due course.
