Kalinga Literary Festival 2026 Launches National Book Review Contest with Penguin Random House
December 9, 2025
The Kalinga Literary Festival (KLF), held from January 8 to 11 in Bhubaneswar, will have The Hindu as its Digital Media Partner. The festival includes famous speakers like Vikram Sampath, Rohini Rana, Michiel Baas, and Devdutt Pattanaik. It is hosted by Odisha Diary Foundation and organised by Kalinga Literary Festival Private Limited.
KLF and Penguin Random House India have teamed up to launch the KLF-Penguin Book Review Competition: The Book Review Project. This national contest aims to bring back the love of reading and unite book lovers across India. From December 3 to 22, 2025, readers can read and review 10 specially selected books. Penguin’s editorial team picked the list, and Amazon links will be provided to buy the books.
Participants must write reviews up to 1,000 words and post them on their Instagram with a photo of the book. KLF and Penguin will feature some reviews on their Instagram stories. The Instagram page is named Kalinga Literary Festival X Penguin.
A shortlist of 15 entries will be made by KLF, and a jury of two Penguin editors and one KLF member will pick the winner. The grand prize is ₹10,000, and the runner-up gets ₹5,000, plus a hamper of Penguin books. Winners will get their awards at KLF in January 2026 at the Mayfair Hotel in Bhubaneswar. Travel and stay will be paid for both.
The competition is open to readers all over India with free registration.
Ashok Kumar Bal, CEO and Patron of KLF, said, “In an age where distractions often outweigh our connection to books, initiatives such as the KLF–Penguin Book Review Competition remind us of the magic that lies within the pages of a great book. By encouraging readers to reflect, review, and share their thoughts, we not only rekindle a passion for reading but also inspire the next generation of literary voices.”
Pallavi Narayan, GM–Corporate Communications at Penguin Random House India said, “At Penguin Random House India, we believe in amplifying diverse Indian voices and bringing our books to readers everywhere. This competition creates a wonderful opportunity to do exactly that.”
