NASA astronaut Jonny Kim came back to Earth after spending eight months in space. He returned with Russian cosmonauts Sergey Ryzhikov and Alexey Zubritsky. Their Soyuz MS-27 spacecraft landed softly under parachutes in Kazakhstan. Recovery teams helped them out quickly. Doctors immediately checked their health because eight months in microgravity is challenging. The crew spent 245 days orbiting Earth 3,920 times, covering nearly 104 million miles. It was Kim and Zubritsky's first mission. Ryzhikov was on his third flight with a total of 603 days in space. Their daily routines included science work, station tasks, exercise, and training. Jonny Kim focused on key experiments. He studied bioprinted tissues with blood vessels in weightlessness to advance future medical treatments in space. He also tested Surface Avatar, a system to control robots remotely. This is vital for future Moon and Mars missions. Additionally, Kim researched DNA-like nanomaterials to help develop better medicines on Earth. After landing, the crew went to Karaganda for more medical tests and rest. Kim will soon travel to Houston for rehabilitation. NASA supports astronauts adapting back to gravity after long space stays. The International Space Station has operated for over 25 years, enabling unique zero-gravity science. Its research drives progress in biology, physics, and medicine. NASA uses these missions to prepare for deeper space exploration. Commercial companies are also taking on more space duties to help NASA focus on bigger missions ahead.
