Maaden and AMAK Swap Mining Licences to Boost Saudi Minerals Drive
December 11, 2025
Two major Saudi mining companies, Maaden and AMAK, have agreed to swap some exploration licenses. This exchange shifts licenses to better fit each company’s strengths and plans. Maaden hands over some licenses to AMAK, while AMAK transfers others back to Maaden. The goal? To speed up exploration and make mine development more efficient under Saudi Vision 2030.
AMAK received licenses best suited for its expansion and specific mining targets. Maaden took licenses more aligned with its large-scale operations. This smart swap helps both companies explore smarter and faster, avoiding wasted time and funds.
AMAK’s CEO, Eng. Geoff Day, called it a "strategic partnership" that will boost efficiency. This move supports Vision 2030, which sees mining as Saudi Arabia’s third economic pillar after oil and petrochemicals.
The Kingdom holds over $2.5 trillion worth of untapped minerals, including gold, copper, zinc, and metals vital for electric cars and green energy, said Arab News. Faster exploration means Saudi Arabia can become a top global supplier for these key materials.
AMAK says this swap "paves the way for future joint opportunities" and will help use Saudi’s rich mineral resources sustainably. Every new discovery brings the kingdom closer to a strong, diverse national economy and better job opportunities for its people.
