Several fishermen from Konda Rajupalem village, Vizianagaram district, have been stranded in Bangladesh since October 22, 2025. The fishermen sailed from Visakhapatnam on October 13, but crossed international waters and were caught by the Bangladesh Coast Guard. Among them are Maripalli Chinnappana, Surada Appalakonda, Maripalli Praveen, and others. Kondarajupalem Sarpanch Surada Chinna Rao and Vadabalija Community Sankshema Sangham president Parimella Vasu spoke to The Hindu, urging the government to act quickly to bring the fishermen home safely. Mr. Vasu also distributed essential supplies to the families and requested the government provide ₹20,000 per month as ex gratia during the fishermen's detention. Nellimarla MLA Lokam Madhavi promised to speak with officials to check on the fishermen’s safety and work for their early release. Vizianagaram Collector S. Ramsundar Reddy has sent details to the government, seeking follow-up for the men's release from Bangladeshi jail.
