Tamil Nadu Government Approves ₹30 Crore Subsidy for Powerloom Upgradation
December 11, 2025
The Tamil Nadu Federation of Powerloom Associations has thanked the State government for approving a ₹30 crore subsidy dedicated to developing and upgrading powerlooms. The revised Government Order states that 3,000 powerlooms will receive ₹1 lakh each, totaling ₹30 crore.
Earlier, the federation opposed allocating ₹15 crore from the fund for automatic loom purchases, demanding the entire amount be used solely for powerloom improvements. The government accepted this request and amended the subsidy allocation accordingly.
Additionally, the government confirmed a further ₹15 crore subsidy to help weavers buy new rapier looms. The federation expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister, the Ministers for Handlooms and Textiles, Housing, Information and Publicity, Erode MP and Tiruchengode MLA for this decision.
Meanwhile, federation members led by State president L.K.M. Suresh met the Assistant Director of Handlooms and Textiles. They highlighted delays in wage payments and submitted a petition. About 30% of wages for producing free dhotis and sarees until November are still pending.
The Assistant Director assured immediate action. Arrangements will be made to release the bulk of pending wages by the end of this week, with the balance cleared by January 10.
