The Chittoor district administration is working closely with Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district officials after a deadly bus crash on December 12 at Raju Gari Metta near Maredumilli. The Vigneswara Travels bus, carrying 37 passengers, plunged into a gorge on the Araku–Bhadrachalam route. ASR police confirmed nine deaths and 22 injuries. Many of those affected are residents of Chittoor district. Chittoor District Collector Sumit Kumar said he immediately contacted the ASR district administration to get accurate details about Chittoor passengers and to update their families. "Arrangements have been made for the treatment of the injured at Chinturu Area Hospital," he said. Liaison teams are helping relatives who are traveling to the ASR district. The Collector also directed Transport Department and police officials to visit the Vigneswara Travels office in Chittoor to collect and verify passenger details to confirm how many from Chittoor were onboard.
