The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has decided to allot the 'centre of choice' to candidates with benchmark disabilities in all its exams. This was announced on December 12, 2025, to make exam-taking easier for disabled aspirants. UPSC Chairman Ajay Kumar said they found popular centres like Delhi, Cuttack, Patna, and Lucknow fill up quickly, causing problems for PwBD candidates. "We observed that certain centres reach their capacity ceiling very early due to high volume," he explained. "This creates challenges for PwBD candidates, who are then compelled to opt for centres that may not be convenient for them. I am pleased that, with this decision, every PwBD candidate will now be assured of their preferred centre," he added. The Commission will first allow both PwBD and non-PwBD candidates to fill available seats. Once full, non-PwBD candidates cannot pick that centre, but PwBD candidates can. UPSC will add more seats if needed to ensure PwBD candidates get their chosen centre. UPSC conducts several government recruitment exams including the civil services exam, held annually in three stages: preliminary, main, and interview.
