A technical team from the Central Soil and Materials Research Station (CSMRS), under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, started inspecting the Polavaram irrigation project. The aim is a detailed quality assurance study. The team of scientists Harendra Prakash, Uday Bhanu Chakraborty, and Siddharth P. Hedaoo visited the project site on Friday. They examined soil, rock, and other materials proposed for the main Earth-cum-Rock Fill (ECRF) dam. Soil samples were collected from borrow areas for lab testing. The tests will check the materials' engineering properties and suitability for the dam. The team also inspected materials in the Gap-1 and Gap-2 zones of the project. They carried out initial onsite tests and took samples for deeper lab analysis. Water Resources Department officials, including Executive Engineers D. Srinivas and Balakrishna, joined the scientists. Senior managers from MEIL, such as General Manager A. Gangadhar and Deputy General Manager Murali Pammi, were also present during the inspection.
