Senior officials from India and China met in Beijing on December 11 to discuss their growing bilateral relationship. Sujit Ghosh, Joint Secretary of India's East Asia Division, and Liu Jinsong, Director-General from China's Foreign Ministry, led the talks. Both sides said there was positive progress following the Modi-Xi meeting in Tianjin this August. The meeting was called "constructive and forward looking" by India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Officials highlighted the importance of leadership guidance in stabilizing and rebuilding ties, with a focus on people-centric engagement. They also reviewed upcoming exchanges planned for next year. India stressed the need to quickly resolve export control issues. Regional and global developments were briefly discussed. Mr. Ghosh later met Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, who referred to the successful Modi-Xi meeting during the SCO summit. Sun hoped both sides would deliver on their agreements, build trust, manage differences properly, and advance cooperation steadily. Mr. Ghosh said, "India-China relations are very important. India is willing to work together with China, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of both countries, to resume institutional dialogue, strengthen exchanges and cooperation, and consolidate the development momentum of India-China relations." He also met the Director General of the Chinese Ministry of Commerce to discuss trade and commercial issues. These talks mark another step forward in improving China-India ties.
