Thiruvananthapuram Local Polls: UDF, LDF, BJP Eye Gains Amid Tense Finish
December 13, 2025
The local body polls results for Thiruvananthapuram are due soon. All three major fronts—the United Democratic Front (UDF), Left Democratic Front (LDF), and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—are confident of improving their past performances. The UDF currently holds only 10 of 100 wards but is making a strong comeback. Sources say even a hung verdict is possible.
The ruling LDF looks confident to win more than the 51 wards it secured last time. Leaders said they are sure of winning 38-40 wards and may comfortably claim 10-15 more. Meanwhile, BJP faces a tough battle after allegations surfaced following a suspected suicide of a party councillor and worker. Despite this, BJP leaders say their unique ground-level campaign, including QR-coded polling slips, may win votes.
However, BJP could face hurdles as their Sathamangalam ward candidate R. Sreelekha shared a fake opinion poll on polling day. The State Election Commission is taking strong action on this issue.
The UDF fielded notable leaders like former MLA K.S. Sabarinadhan and District Congress Committee secretary M.S. Anilkumar, signaling serious intent to improve results. Still, capturing power at the corporation remains difficult.
All fronts battled challenges from rebel candidates, which might affect outcomes. Delimitation changes also added confusion, as some families found their votes split over different wards.
For BJP, results here will be a crucial indicator ahead of assembly elections due in a few months.
