The United Democratic Front (UDF) has claimed a strong victory in the Kannur Corporation elections by winning 37 out of 56 council seats. This win ensures the UDF's return to power in the local body. A total of 1,35,780 voters out of 1,93,079 cast their votes in the election. The Left Democratic Front (LDF) secured only 14 seats, while the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won four. The NDA kept its hold on the Pallikunnu ward and additionally won the Kokkenpara, Thulicheri, and Temple wards. The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) won one seat from the Arakkal ward. Several important LDF leaders were defeated. P.K. Ragesh lost in Panikkara, former State Sports Council chief O.K. Vineesh was defeated in Thalikkavu, and former standing committee chairperson K.P. Sabira lost in Arakkal. Also, three rebel candidates who ran against the UDF in the Payyambalam (K.N. Bindu), Varam (K.V. Riyas), and Adikadalayi (V. Muhammadali) wards were defeated. This helped the UDF strengthen its position in the Kannur Corporation. The results highlight a major setback for the LDF and a significant comeback for the UDF in Kerala's local body polls in 2025.
