The United Democratic Front (UDF) claimed a major victory in Malappuram district civic polls, defeating the Left Democratic Front (LDF) across many local bodies. UDF won 11 of 12 municipalities, 84 out of 94 grama panchayats, 14 of 15 block panchayats, and 31 of 33 district panchayat divisions. LDF took Ponnani municipality but lost Perinthalmanna and Nilambur to UDF. UDF retained nine other municipalities including Malappuram and Manjeri. In Perinthalmanna's 37-member municipal council, UDF won 15 seats, LDF 14, with 8 independents mostly backed by UDF. The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), part of UDF, performed strongly but lost Ponmundam panchayat to the Janakeeya Munnani alliance. LDF secured majorities only in a few panchayats like Edapal and Elamkulam. Several panchayats, including Ponnani block panchayat, remain hung with no clear majority. In the district panchayat, UDF won 31 divisions, leaving LDF with just two. This marks the UDF's strongest local election performance in Malappuram history.
