Experts Urge MBA Students to Embrace Real-World Learning Over Rote Study
December 13, 2025
Experts at a webinar hosted by Vellore Institute of Technology and The Hindu Education Plus highlighted the importance of problem-driven learning for MBA students. They emphasized handling ambiguity and real-world complexity over rote learning. Mary Cherian, Dean of Business School at VIT, said simulation-based and industry project courses build critical thinking, confidence, ethical leadership, and responsible management. She urged students to seize all chances to gain knowledge and skills to become industry-ready. Anwar Sadad, co-founder of Olive Ridley and VIT alumnus, shared that while his MBA taught him about "price, promotion, product, and place," real-life experience added three more 'P's — Patience, Perseverance, and Problem-solving. "These are the three qualities every industry expects of a business student," he said. S. Sasikumar, VIT admissions director, explained the application process and overseas partnerships. He stressed the importance of teamwork and learning from peers and professors, saying, "To maximise success in the MBA programme, you cannot afford to be a loner."
