The United Democratic Front (UDF) kept its lead by winning 10 of 13 municipalities in Ernakulam, improving from eight wins in 2020. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) stunned many by winning the Thripunithura municipality for the first time, beating the Left Democratic Front (LDF) in a close battle. The LDF could only hold on to Eloor municipality by winning 15 wards, while the UDF took 12 wards there. In Angamaly, the contest is tight. The LDF won 13 seats, the UDF 12 seats, and four Independent candidates will decide who forms the government. The UDF claimed victories in Aluva, Thrikkakara, Piravom, Perumbavoor, North Paravur, Muvattupuzha, Maradu, Kothamangalam, Koothattukulam, and Kalamassery municipalities. Compared to 2020, where the UDF won eight municipalities, they have now increased their tally notably. The LDF won Eloor, Koothattukulam, Kothamangalam, Piravom, and Thripunithura in 2020 but saw changes in 2025. The UDF regained Koothattukulam and took Kothamangalam and Piravom from LDF this time. A dramatic finish took place in Thripunithura where the NDA overtook the LDF in final rounds to secure 21 seats against LDF's 20. The UDF increased its count here to 12 seats from eight in 2020. Thripunithura was long considered an LDF bastion since 1978. BJP had been the main opposition there, but this is their first win. The LDF’s strength came down from 25 seats last time to 21 now. Rebel CPI(M) councillor Kala Raju helped the UDF wrest power in Koothattukulam municipality. Overall, the UDF ended with nine municipalities, showing a strong comeback in the area.
