Parking problems around Bengaluru's Namma Metro stations are getting worse. Many stations lack proper parking areas. Commuters park vehicles on nearby roads and in residential areas. This adds to traffic and upsets locals. With 10 lakh riders daily, demand for space is high. BMRCL has designated parking at 66 of 83 stations, with room for 12,000 two-wheelers and 2,300 cars. Reporters found parking spots too few at busy stations on the Purple, Green, and Yellow Lines. At R.V. Road station, commuters park in lanes near homes and parks, causing hardship. Resident Somashekhar N.R. said, "Every morning and evening, I go for a walk in the Rose Garden near R.V. Road Metro station. But right in front of the park gate, two-wheelers and cars are parked. It is difficult to even enter." Suma R. from Jayanagar said, "Now, I have placed big stones so that nobody can park. Parking issue has worsened after the Yellow Line opened." Attiguppe station also sees long queues of parked two-wheelers blocking roads. Nearby school traffic worsens the chaos. At Jalahalli and other Green Line stations, dedicated parking fills up early, and cars spill onto main roads, increasing congestion. Commuters from towns like Ramanagara and Bidadi use Purple Line stations but find parking scarce. Kengeri station has no dedicated parking, pushing people to the overburdened Kengeri Bus Terminal lot or nearby residential areas. Indiranagar station parking fills before 9 a.m., pushing commuters to residential streets. Resident Abhinav Sarma said he parks in lanes due to space limits. BMRCL officials blame high land costs and limited availability, especially in central areas. They say newer lines focus more on two-wheeler parking and plan multi-level parking at major stations soon.
