The Election Commission has appointed special roll observers (SROs) in eight States to help make the draft electoral rolls error-free during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR). These States include West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. The SROs will work two days a week until the final electoral rolls are published in February 2026. They will meet with political party leaders and election officials to ensure a smooth and transparent process. In addition, Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) in all States and Union Territories are sharing lists of absent, shifted, dead, or duplicate voters (ASD) with booth-level agents (BLAs) of political parties before the draft rolls are published. Nearly five lakh booth-level officers (BLOs) across 12 States and Union Territories are holding booth-wise meetings with over 12 lakh BLAs to hand over the ASD lists. BLOs mark voters as “absent, shifted or dead/duplicate” only after visiting their houses three or more times to confirm their status. This helps correct errors before draft lists are published. After publication, the ASD lists will be accessible on district and CEO websites, searchable by EPIC number. The draft electoral rolls for the 12 States and Union Territories will be published between December 16 and December 31, 2025, marking a key step in finalizing clean and accurate voter lists for upcoming elections.
