Drone Strike Kills Six at UN Headquarters in Sudan's South Kordofan
December 14, 2025
At least six people were killed after a drone strike hit a United Nations facility in Sudan’s southern Kordofan region. A medical source at Kadugli’s hospital told AFP on Saturday, “Six people were killed in a bombing of the UN headquarters while they were inside the building.” Witnesses said the victims were UN employees. The strike struck the UN building in Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan, which has been under siege for about a year and a half. The Sudanese government condemned the attack. The army-aligned administration based in Port Sudan accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of carrying it out. The Sovereignty Council, led by army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, called the strike a “dangerous escalation” and denounced the attack on the UN facility. Kadugli faces severe humanitarian conditions, with famine declared in early November. The city lies in the Kordofan region, a large farming area divided into three states. Kordofan is located between RSF-controlled Darfur to the west and army-controlled areas in the north, east, and center. Its position is crucial for supply routes and troop movements. Since war broke out between the RSF and the Sudanese military in April 2023, the RSF has deployed fighters, drones, and allied militias throughout the fertile area. Experts say the RSF aims to break army lines in central Sudan, potentially to recapture Khartoum.
