Nine Dead, Multiple Injured in Shocking Bondi Beach Shooting During Hanukkah Event
December 14, 2025
A deadly shooting at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday killed nine people and injured several others. Police rushed at least eight injured individuals to hospitals. Authorities asked the public to avoid the area.
A tense 57-second video shows an armed gunman firing a rifle on the grass near parked cars, while people run and hide. A man in a white shirt bravely stepped up, using cars as cover to approach the shooter. He tackled the gunman and wrestled the rifle away. The gunman managed to escape but was later shot.
Officials said one shooter was killed and the second is in critical condition. Police confirmed two arrests. Four injured were taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, one each to Royal Prince Alfred and St George Hospital.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese called the event "shocking and distressing," expressing sympathy for those affected.
The Jewish community reacted strongly. Robert Gregory, head of Australia’s Jewish Association, called the shooting "a tragedy but entirely foreseeable," criticizing the government for not protecting the community. Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the attack as "a cruel attack on Jews" and urged Australia to fight antisemitism.
The Australian National Imams Council, a major Muslim organization, condemned the “horrific” attack. They offered prayers for victims and called for national unity and compassion.
