Humane Animal Society (HAS), with support from HCL Foundation and Mission Rabies India, began a dog re-vaccination drive in eight Coimbatore district areas from December 8 to 18. These areas include Madukkarai, Arasipalayam, Nachipalayam, Vazhukkupparai, Malumachampatti, Othakkalmandapam, Seerapalayam, and Karumathampatti. This campaign follows last year's successful drive, which vaccinated more than 5,000 dogs in seven days. "Annual re-vaccination is the key to eliminate the deadly disease," said the organisers. Since the campaign started on December 10, more than 3,000 dogs have been vaccinated. The goal is to vaccinate over 6,000 dogs by December 18. The programme also includes a dedicated Rabies Response Team (RRT) trained to act quickly on community reports. This team works alongside ongoing public education and vaccination efforts across the district. At the launch event, representatives from the district administration, HCL Foundation, Mission Rabies, Humane Animal Society, local partners, and volunteers pledged to strengthen Coimbatore's fight against rabies. They confirmed this initiative as a real "One Health" effort, combining human and animal health efforts to make Coimbatore a rabies-free district.
