The Andhra Pradesh government has allotted nearly 30 acres of land to Sagar Defence Engineering Pvt. Ltd. (SDEPL) for building an Autonomous Maritime Shipyard and Systems Centre. The site is at Juvvaladinne fishing harbour in Nellore district. The total investment is ₹45 crore. The project plans to generate jobs for 750 people. According to Government Order Rt.No. 97 by Special Chief Secretary (Infrastructure & Investments) M.T. Krishna Babu, trial production will begin in October 2026. Commercial production will start on November 26, 2026. An official release called the SDEPL project a major step in India’s maritime and defence manufacturing field. The company will create unmanned and autonomous surface and underwater vessels. It will also build smart maritime systems, sensors, and command and control technologies. The shipyard will help improve coastal surveillance, maritime domain awareness, offshore security, and defence readiness with limited human help. Construction of the shipyard starts this month, December 2025. Machinery installation will finish by June 2026. SDEPL is known for its work inside India’s defence and strategic ecosystem. The company focuses on indigenous design, advanced integration, and next-gen maritime solutions. This fits with national aims like Atmanirbhar Bharat and defence indigenisation.
