Leaders of the Amarajeevi Potti Sriramulu Pavitra Smruti Parirakshana Samithi in Srikakulam have asked the government to include a lesson on Potti Sriramulu in school textbooks. They want future generations to learn about his sacrifice for the creation of a separate Andhra State in 1953. On Monday, the association’s Srikakulam district president Tammana Bhaskar and district secretary Mandavilli Swami Srinivas Gupta paid floral tributes at Potti Sriramulu’s statue in Gandhi Park to mark his death anniversary. They remembered his hunger strike from October 19 to December 15, 1952, which led to the creation of linguistic States in India. Mr. Bhaskar also urged the government to release funds to develop a memorial building in Chennai, where Potti Sriramulu died while fasting. Other association leaders, including Pasumarthi Appala Raju, Manda Nageswara Rao, Mamidipaka Sudhakar, Tammana Jagadish, Patnala Anand, and Anantapalli Nageswara Rao, participated in the event.
